Telcoset, in collaboration with Cisco and our group company Airmind, organized a webinar titled "Discover Connected Life with LoRa in Smart Cities and Smart Industries!" on April 17, 2020. The event garnered participation from representatives across various sectors. During the webinar, Özgür Pirinç, the CTO of Airmind, presented on the topic of 'Smart Cities and Industries Evolving with LoRa' and demonstrated a live session. Additionally, Didem Duru, General Manager of Cisco Turkey, and Osama Al-Zoubi, CTO of the Middle East and Africa, elaborated on Cisco's role in global digitalization and the advancement of cities and industries through IoT solutions. Throughout the two-hour session, the speakers extensively discussed LoRaWAN technology and addressed attendees' questions.
The proliferation of IoT (Internet of Things) systems worldwide has led to an increasing number of developments in recent years. This necessitates the reliable and low-power transmission of data over long distances. Here, the LoRa Alliance, in which Cisco actively participates, plays a crucial role in overcoming challenges such as distance limitations, communication costs, and high energy consumption.
The LoRaWAN solution provides coverage of up to 5 km in urban areas and up to 15 km in residential areas around the city, while ensuring longer battery life due to its low power consumption. Unlike Wi-Fi and cellular communication technologies, the flexible and secure architecture of LoRaWAN allows for cost-effective implementation of system infrastructures.
The versatility of the LoRaWAN solution makes it highly sought after in smart city projects, supporting various applications. It proves particularly useful for monitoring critical city infrastructures, including water and energy consumption, smart lighting systems, parking lot management, and smart irrigation systems, through its implementation in LoRaWAN technology.
